| Sustainability has always been important to Berkeley Woodworking. We have many initiatives and product options in place to help minimize our impact on the environment.
Bamboo - As one of the fastest growing plants in the world, bamboo regenerates quickly and produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent amount of trees. It is also harvested from managed forests. We offer several styles of bamboo doors with numerous finish options.
Lyptus - Because Lyptus is plantation grown in FSC certified forests, it is an environmentally friendly alternative to many woods. With a regeneration rate of only 14 to 17 years, Lyptus is a high density, durable wood that machines well and finishes evenly. We offer several styles of doors in Lyptus also with numerous finish options.
Local Resources - Buying from local businesses supports the use of indigenous resources, stimulates the local community, and reduces the environmental impact resulting from transportation.
No Urea Formaldehyde - We offer plywood that is made with no added Urea Formaldehyde. This reduces indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants.
Finishes - We are constantly reformulating our finishes to lower VOC and HAPs emissions. Stains are hand applied, reducing the release of these emissions. We use a state-of-the-art automated spray system to apply the sealer and topcoat, which minimizes over-spray.
